So it’s Friday, which means something to most people I guess – especially those doing the Monday through Friday work routine. Not me though. I’m too bad ass for that routine – in the sense that I’m a writer and pretty much write every day of the week and can write at any time that I want. It’s a pretty sweet gig.
Here are my ramblings for this fine, drizzly Friday.
– The Washington Wizards are the worst team in the NBA with a record of just 3-23. Sure, they may be without starting point guard John Wall but even he won’t make enough of a difference to counter the average eight point difference a game this team is being outscored by. The crazy thing about all of this is that they play decent enough defense that if they had some guys that could light up the scoreboard regularly they could at least be a .500 team.
Any NBA team that gives up an average of just 96.9 points a game should have more than three wins, but not when you average only 88.6 points a game. Don’t worry though Wizards fans, the Charlotte Bobcats are making a run at the worst record in basketball by having lost 16 straight games – double of what the Wizards have lost.
– I wonder what’s running through Mike Napoli’s mind as the Boston Red Sox have yet to finalize his contract. There’s apparently something wrong, or concerning at least, with his hip and the Red Sox don’t want him breaking down on them Mo Vaughn style before he even gets midway through his contract. It’s obvious that the Red Sox are desperate to makeover their entire roster and clubhouse this off-season, who wouldn’t be after such a fall from grace that last season was for them, but I have to wonder if some of their strategery isn’t a case of knee-jerk reactionism.
– The Texas Rangers had a plan going into this winter and well…they really screwed the pooch on it because nothing has worked out for them in the slightest. They lost out on Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Dodgers, they let Mike Napoli walk – without even so much as a qualifying offer – and he signed a (possible) contract with the Red Sox, and they basically treated Josh Hamilton like he wasn’t worth a damn to them only to watch him sign with the division rival Los Angeles Angels. Of course they complained that they didn’t get a fair shot to match, or beat, their offer though – wah wah. You had a year and a half to get a contract done with the guy and you chose not to.
That being said, the Rangers are no longer the favorites in the American League West. I do think they have plenty of offense and pitching leftover to snag one of the two Wild-Card spots though.
– What am I watching this weekend? Well, I’m glad you asked. The NFC East title game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins has been moved to prime time television. Hell Yeah! So that’s what I will be watching on Sunday night, immediately after I’m done recording another fantastic episode of Bird Talk with my pals Kevin and Tucker.
